I am way behind schedule but at least I did my laundry. I’ve had functioning issues of late. I seem to be coming out of it. I did the Budgiedome schedule and now the laundry. When I’m finished with this I’ll go shopping. Blogging counts as functioning too. I didn’t write yesterday; it’s a bad sign when I don’t. This is the second time in the last few weeks when I had time to blog and I didn’t. So now to catch you up on what I’ve been doing.
Tuesday night I went to the Met game with Alan. They were playing San Diego one of the worst teams. That allowed a miracle to occur, not only did they win that game, 6–3, but they won the next too. That won the series, the first time since May. It is not easy being a Met fan. I had an added bonus of pleasure, Gene and Isabel were at the game. They weren’t in their usual seats and spotted me. I can’t spot anyone. If I check in at a game look for me in the upper deck behind the plate.
My plan yesterday was to blog early then head over to Jane and Bernie’s to help them with moving. They flew out to Portland this morning. The morning became 4:10. It would have been earlier, but I had to stop at Lickity Split for ice cream.
I did not get that much done but I was useful. Their stuff is going to stay there another month. I might go and over now and then just to throw things out and look for things that I might be able to find a home for. They aren’t taking most of it. Most importantly I got to say goodbye, to give and get hugs.
I went from there into the City to see The Bumper Jacksons. They are the never miss band that I miss the most often. Something has prevented me from seeing them on multiple occasions. If I were still on City Island I might have hesitate to go for fear of missing the last bus. I still would have gone but I’d have worried. It was a late show, 9 PM and a long set, over two hours. There was one more reason I had to go, the were playing at Hill Country Barbecue Market, my favorite restaurant, the place I chose to eat on my birthday. I ordered something different. The pork loin was not as good as the brisket, which was exceptional. The sausage was great and an interesting alternative to the spare ribs.
What do the Bumper Jacksons play? When I posted a picture on Instagram I called them Western Swing and much of their music is. There were people dancing. I found it difficult to sit still, I sat in my seat. Their instrumentation fits the genre, trumpet, clarinet, drums guitar, and pedal steel. On some songs Jess switches out the clarinet for a washboard; Not a common combination to play. She plays one more instrument that I’ll get to. When she plays the washboard, she attaches the fingerpicks to black elegant gloves, another unusual combination. They look like a Western Swing band which works well for Instagram. But their music has blues and country, and weirdness.
During the show I discovered the highest praise I can give them. The other instrument Jess plays in a slide trombone kazoo with a working slide. The first album has my anthem on it, The Bacon Adoration. That is not the highest praise I was talking about. The highest praise is that I don’t think of them as the “Bacon Adoration Band” or “The band with the slide trombone kazoo. I think of them as a great band, not as a novelty that fits in my sweet spot.
Sadly, I know only three people in the band, the aforementioned Jess, Chris on guitar, vocals, and Alex on bass. Jess and Chris write most, but not all of the songs.
I should have pushed this show harder on social media. None of My Gentle Readers were there and I know that many of you would enjoy them. I have no choice, they are one of those bands that bury their way straight into my pleasure centers.
Now I’ll finally make my way to the stores and go shopping. Then I will relax, make dinner, and watch Doctor Who.

What’s that about? I fell asleep in the middle of a sentence. When I woke up it was there. Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidi
It happened again. Tonight, I make sure I get enough sleep. I better finish this off and decide if I’m napping or shopping. As I’m fighting to stay awake I know which way I’d bet.
Stop the presses, I remember what I was writing when I fell asleep. I have a no Jacksons rule on the WFUV Question of the Day Facebook Group. I strongly dislike Jackson Brown. I often confuse him with Joe Jackson. When people suggest songs by them or Michael Jackson, or the Jackson Five, I respond with “No Jacksons!” It’s one of the stupid things that gets funny through repetition. When people on the group saw I was seeing the Bumper Jacksons they laughed and made snarky remarks. I had to explain that like Mahalia, Bumper is an exception to the rule. Now to get this posted before I fall asleep again.
