I was not inspired yesterday so I didn’t write. Of course later in the day when I was out I got inspired. Even more of course I don’t remember half of what I wanted to write. I do remember what I did so I’ll write about that.
I decided to go back to Jane and Bernie’s house yesterday. There was at least one thing there I wanted. Moreover Jane is flying in on Monday and I wanted to make sure the place was habitable. As long as I was making my way across the Bronx I made two other stops. The first was to the Department of Motor Vehicles to change my address to my current one. That also changed my voter registration, I can vote local in November. It’s very easy to do that but I didn’t get a new license as they charge or that. I’m debating going back and doing that. It’s very easy to do, you don’t have to wait on long lines or wait for your number to be called. There are two self-service terminals with just a short line. The interface is beyond terrible but a human being is there to guide you. Whoever designed the interface was terrible. It’s never made clear if you are entering your old address or your new one. It doesn’t tell you about changing your voter registration until late in the game. It was painful to use. Every ATM in the world is better.
The DMV is directly across the street from the Fordham Campus so I stopped by WFUV to say hello. I got a quick hi with Russ, a lot of time with Linda, and a quality hug from Robin who is now my neighbor. I love that I can just walk over to the station.
When I got to Jane’s I discovered that I had left my quilt behind. As the weather is getting cooler I was going to miss that. I thought I had stored it at my friends’ house with my other things. Sadly I forgot the code name of that friend and I’m too lazy to research it now. I also found a NERFA bag filled with CDs and papers.
Neither of the overhead lights in the living room worked. I couldn’t find the step ladder I needed to check the bulb of one of them. I ended up using a chair. No idea why, but the bulb had been loosened. All I had to do was screw it all the way in. the other fixture is so high I need the long ladder and that’s not particularly steady. I’ll wait for Jane to get their so she can spot me. I also discovered that the TV wasn’t connected and the Internet was not working. It was dark by the time I discovered this and rain was on the way so I decided to handle it another time That means Sunday, I don’t have the time any other day till then. If I left now I could do it as I’m not ready to leave now. Maybe I’ll get it together enough to give it a shot.
I stopped at Stop & Shop on the way home. The one in Baychester has shaved steak, the one near me now doesn’t. I also picked up other things. Some of them never made it home. When I went to pack I discovered that I had only one shopping bag with me, not two. That meant using a plastic supermarket bag. That one was left on the bus. I am not sure what was in it other than potato chips and plantains. This was the second time I bought plantains that didn’t make it home. It isn’t easy being an idiot. I was juggling my backpack, filled with groceries, Jane’s “Mexican bag” with my quilt, the canvas bag I bought, and the plastic bag. That’s how one was left behind.
The trip home took forever. The MTA GPS was not playing well with Google or their own apps. I foolishly let at Bx30 bus go not knowing I could take it. The Bx26 I was waiting for never came. I took the next Bx30. It’s not a bus I take often. I got off one stop to soon, so of course it started to rain. I had to hang my quilt out to dry. Good thing I didn’t need it last night.
Speaking of the weather, whose fault is that that yesterday was August. I might as well had been in a swamp. There was more water vapor in the air than oxygen, perhaps nitrogen too. I was wearing my summer clothes.
This was easy to write. A bit short but I can live with that; much easier than the conflicting ideas running through my head yesterday. They might still find an outlet.
