The Dark Crystal of Hadestown

The WFUV member drive is over and once again I’m writing from home. This a lot easier. I miss the macros I have on Word. I just used one to create the link to WFUV.

It was a strange day at the station. Until 4PM none of the volunteers showed up. It was just me and students. Not that I mind students; talking to them is one of the perks of volunteering. I made three new Facebook friends, Olivia, Julia, and James. I’ve known Oliva and Julia for a while and always forget their names. If I remember them it’s thanks to I Claudius where Livia was Augustus’s wife and Julia is daughter. I never can remember them from drive to drive. Olivia is doing a semester abroad so I won’t see her again until the summer. Now that we are Facebook friends I’ll be reminded of her name and will remember it when she gets back. Maybe, Not likely but there’s a chance. I won’t have to wait as long to see Julia. Will I remember her name? the problem is that I don’t want to associate them with Livia or Julia, they were not exactly good people.

I had to become friends with Jim as he casually Septuagint in conversation. Erika, another student, found our conversation very entertaining as we moved from ancient religion, to being bald. We played mental pinball, a hallmark of my friends.

On Sunday the programming is Irish/Celtic shows until 4:00. I love Celtic music. It is the day I spend the most time listening to the station, so I volunteer all day. Early on I heard House of Hamill. They just played John Platt’s On Your Radar, and are one of My Bands. I’m not sure what exactly defines being one of My Bands but they clearly belong. We’re on a first-name basis, hug, and they made my top album list.

Last night I watched The Dark Crystal. I’m not sure if I’ve seen that since I saw it in the theater. It was a magical as I remember. It’s one of those movies that came in pairs, It’s pairmate is Labyrinth. They were the two epic fantasy Muppet movies that came out around the same time. You must make a choice on these things and despite Bowie being in Labyrinth, my choice is The Dark Crystal. Netflix is turning it into a TV series; it looks like it will be a prequel, telling about the Gelfing resistance to the Skexis. The Dark Crystal is on Netflix now. Don’t miss it.

I must have had a bad sleep apnea night. I woke up tired and slept away the morning. A sleep study is on my medical to-do list. I had my colonoscopy; the next step is my cataracts. I need to be able to see. Then my sleep study, then having my abdominal hernia repaired, and I’d like to see a dermatologist. Doctors have seen my lesions and not been worried but I’d still like to get an expert opinion. My plan to live forever includes not letting cancer get out of hand. I’m not really going to live forever, just till the sun turns red giant and engulfs the earth. I’m a practical sort.

I forgot to mention it when writing at the station; I bought a ticket to see Hadestown. I can’t really afford that but I had to go. I was able to get a discount advance sale for fans and I’m sitting front row center in the balcony. My friend was going to take me for my birthday but there was miscommunication and I didn’t want to miss out on the advance sale. He doesn’t understand the concept. If I end up seeing it twice, I won’t complain. I would much rather see it with somebody. This will be my first Broadway show by myself.
