I started today with my surgical follow up with my doctor. They took off the eye shield and my eye did not pop out; that is always a good sign. I’m doing quite well. I had to buy new reading glasses as I couldn’t see my phone with my old ones. I had been getting by using my right eye but now that it’s had surgery it can’t see near either. I bought my first reading glasses to read on my computer, they are too weak to read closer. What did I know? I never needed reading glasses before. This time I didn’t buy cheap drug store glasses, the new ones are super-cheap dollar store glasses. They cost me all of $2. Now I can see my phone and my computer. These are tiny so I can wear them on the end of my nose and see over them for distance. I suspect I look like a terribly stereotyped old bookish woman. I don’t care how I look, I care how I see.
People have been treating me with kid gloves like I went through something stressful yesterday. Having cataract surgery is not scary or difficult. It’s much more like having a party thrown for you and getting presents. The worst part was getting up early. The discomfort from the surgery is minimal.
My health is at a local optimum. I have none of my recent complaints. There’s no back or joint pain. The cough is totally gone. My nose just has the usual structural congestion which is completely solved by a nasal strip. The sore at the top of my mouth is gone. My digestive system is back to normal. I just got reminded this is not quite true. That pain in my buttock, which might be sciatica, is back. That goes away on its own.
In two weeks I have a follow up visit and in four to six weeks get a prescription for reading glasses. I have no idea how that works with Medicaid. I don’t care what they look like but I do care that I can get them quickly. Worse comes to worse I’ll get some better over the counter pairs. I like having multiple pairs so wherever I am in the house there’s one nearby and I also have one for the road.
Tonight will be exciting, I’m seeing Dave’s True Story for the first time in years, maybe a decade. They’ve been on hiatus. They are one of my all-time favorite bands, and one of the bands that I’m closest too. I’m having a good run.
