Sorry I didn’t write yesterday, I didn’t have time in the morning, at least after I fell back to sleep for an hour and a half. But yesterday I was busy; I saw Avengers: Endgame and The Mets play the Reds. I’m going to have to talk about Game of Thrones too. Looking at the bandage on my finger reminds me that I there is also an idiot story. Good thing the bandage doesn’t stop me from writing.
On Saturday I saw Gotterdammerung, On Sunday the Battle of Winterfell on Game of Thrones, and yesterday Avengers: Endgame. That’s a lot of apocalypse for three days. I loved all three.
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD.
Since Game of Thrones started my favorite character have been Arya with Jon not far behind. In the discussions before the last season no one else seemed to think that Arya had a large part to play. I did, but I thought her part would be to kill Cersei. I’m not complaining I raised my fist and gave a whoop when she killed the Night King. I was right that Bran would have a key part in the Night King’s defeat. That was one of the greatest TV episodes ever.
I saw a matinee showing of Avengers. That’s why I didn’t have time to blog yesterday. I had to give myself some leeway as I’ve hit so many delays on the subway of late. I could have gotten there 20 minutes later as there were a lot of previews. I discovered one big thing in the previews. Sansa Stark is not just a mutant, but the most powerful mutant, Jean Gray. Why was she cowering in the crypt? Was she afraid that if she fought the Night King that Dark Phoenix would take over?
I saw the film in Real 3—D I’m not sure that was worth the extra money. It might be. Perhaps I should have gone all in and seen it in 3—D IMAX. There were some quibbles but I loved it. I’m a total sucker for series capping stories like this. I got a thrill as the put the band back together. Cap might be hokey but his pep talks get to me. Best of all they honored the Mets not the Yankees! They showed Citi Field and when Steve was in group therapy another patient shared that when he went on his first date since The Snap they talked about how they both miss the Mets. After 5 years baseball should have come back. Maybe leagues would have to contract back to 8 teams each but baseball should have gone on just as it did during WWII when most of the best players were in the military.
The film was 3-hours long but in no way too long. All the time was well spent. It wasn’t all epic battles, much of the film was character development. There was plenty of humor. And of course the epic battle in the end. I gave out a whoop when Arya killed Thanos. I totally saw that coming.
Two things at the end bothered me, both involving Captain America. How does giving Sam the shield make him the new Cap? He didn’t take the super soldier serum. He was Falcon, a guy with technology and a second-string Avenger. How does he take Steve Rogers’ place? The second is, doesn’t Steve staying in the past change the timeline and create different realities?
After the film I took advantage of being in the City and bought half-priced bagels and Bagel Bob’s in the Village. I haven’t done that in ages. I’m going through bagel depravation. Then I went to Trader Joe’s for some necessities, butter, eggs, and potatoes. I had dinner at a Melt place, Hot Nashville Chicken. That was excellent. Oh, I forgot an idiot story. When I got on the subway after the film I discovered that I had lost my reading glasses. I think I took them off when I put my pullover sweatshirt on, and forgot to put them back on. Good thing the only cost $2. I’ll pick up another pair today. Another two pair, I broke one too.
After that I was off to the Met game. I was disappointed when security didn’t comment on my bringing groceries and bagels to the game. I was a little afraid they wouldn’t let me bring the eggs in. If I were a teen I bet they wouldn’t, but I don’t look like a guy that would be throwing eggs.
It was a weird game. Wheeler had one terrible inning where he gave up four runs but didn’t give up another the rest of the game. The Mets scored two runs on one hit, three walks, and a hit batsman. Juan Lagares made a great catch. The game was tied 4—4 in the eighth when Jeurys Familia failed once again and gave up a home run. The Mets lost.
I got home a little before midnight. I remembered to cut the bagels and put them in the freezer. I was tired and not paying enough attention and cut deeply into my left index finger. It was deep enough that I was worried about permanent damage but none of my nerves or tendons seems to have been affected. There was a lot of blood. I cleaned the wound with soap and water but kept bleeding. I wrapped a paper towel around it while looking for a better solution. I couldn’t find my band-aids. I thought I had a box somewhere. I couldn’t find my liquid skin. That wouldn’t have worked anyway as the blood would have washed it away before it dried. I ended up using a roll of sterile gauze had had around for some reason and held it on with tape medical tape. I did that twice. The first time it bled through. The second time I remembered to apply antibiotics. I’ll change the dressing after I write this. This was the idiot story I was referring to in the first paragraph.
Today’s plan is to see the surgeon to make an appointment for surgery and then if I have time go to PT for my back. I’ll also pick up new reading glasses. I still have one pair but I like having three, one by my bed, one by the chair where I use my computer, and one in my bag for when I’m out.
Now it’s time to enjoy sausageeggandcheese on a bagel. I bled for it; it better be good.
