Just as I was about to start writing the outside bell rang. I went to the buzzer and asked, “Who is it?” The response was, “Somebody open the door.” I hope nobody let him in, I didn’t. Doesn’t that defeat the entire purpose of having to buzz people in? He didn’t even think it necessary to give a reason to be let in. If he said, “I forgot my key” I’d probably believe him. I said, “probably” as this guy’s tone was threatening not friendly.
Yesterday’s weather was terrible but I had to go out shopping. I found a time where it was just misting and not raining. On the bright side I got to wear my trench coat and broad brimmed rain hat. I thought I looked cool even if nobody else did.
I signed up to volunteer for Elizabeth Warren’s campaign. I’ll strongly support whoever wins the Democratic nomination but she’s the one who would make the best president. I’m not as certain if she’d make the best candidate but that’s why we have primaries. If she can win that, she can win it all. I support her for similar reasons that I supported Hillary, she’s intellectually honest. She doesn’t say trust me I’ll be the best president. She doesn’t give a wish list of things people like without a realistic way of achieving them. Any candidate that says we are going to pay for things because if I’m elected we’ll have growth rates the country hasn’t achieved in 50 years is simply a liar. Nobody knows how to increase the economic growth rate other than in the very long term and that growth isn’t dramatic. Can that change? Yes but not because of anything the president can do. If a game changing technology is developed the sky’s the limit, but Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs were not the president. What we can do is build infrastructure, better educate people, and prevent lead poisoning.
What many people don’t get is that any Democrat would be radically different than any Republican. We have never managed to undo the damage that Reagan did. I’d be happy just to do that. Bring back more progressive taxes, stop demonizing the poor and minorities, and increase social spending. That will happen no matte which Democrat is president of we can also take control of congress for more than a few years. The Republicans managed to thwart the programs of both Obama and Clinton. But even then we got CHIP and the ACA. Taxes were made more progressive. Maybe this time we can improve on the ACA, they couldn’t even get the public option last time. But maybe we can’t, we can at least reverse the attacks Trump made on it. In terms of what is achievable the differences in the Dems is tiny compared to the differences with the Republicans. It’s mainly about how to achieve the goals, than the goals themselves. I care about what can be achieved, not the rhetoric.
Not sure what I can do on the campaign. I know what I’m good at, organizing and managing people and writing. If all they have me do is make sure the copier is working right like Bill Clinton did, that’s OK. I did more for Clinton but that was part of it.
The most important thing I bought when shopping was Taylor Ham. I have been buying the cheap thinly sliced ham from Aldi. It’s a much better bargain. I had to throw out the last package as there was a hole in in that I didn’t see and it changed color. I know longer trusted it to be safe. As Stop & Shop had the real Taylor Ham full role, not just slices, I decided to get it. I will have proper breakfasts for a while.
I have a feeling that most people don’t blog about Elizabeth Warren and Taylor Ham, but that’s the point of blogging. It’s personal, if most people would do it, it wouldn’t be worth writing.
