Semily

Yesterday I went to my first wedding in almost two years; the nuptials of Seth and Emily. I often refer to Emily as my fiancée as I proposed the first time I met her. She made chocolate ganache, so it’s totally understandable.

I had to buy a sport jacket and I promised you I’d post a picture of me in it. This is what I look like when I fake looking respectable.

The wedding was at Gran Electrica, under the Brooklyn Bridge. For once I was neither early nor late, I arrived with the crowd. The first one I saw when I walked in was Chris, so I knew I was in the right place. I was not sure how many people I would know there. I’ve known Seth for years but have an odd overlap of social circles. The two people I knew would be there are Gene and Isabel. We had talked about it the night before. I really wish everyone wore name tags. There were many people that I know but see infrequently enough that there names don’t automatically come to me. Most of those are residents of Shantytown, a campsite at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Shantytown can be considered a colony of the Budgiedome. The Budgiedome was originally Camp Früvous on top of the hill at the festival. Those that did not want to climb the hill every day decided to camp on the flats as Lower Camp Früvous. That evolved into Shantytown and merged with Camp Dar. As they camp at the far end of the Festival from us, I know the camp but don’t see them often. The colony has grown to be much larger than the parent camp but it’s still the same type of community as my beloved Budgiedome and Dharma Café aka Buddha-Pest. I’m the pest.

Bill the mayor of shantytown officiated at the wedding. Sadly the state does not recognize the position as one that can perform weddings so he had to use the Universal Life Church as the legal fig leaf.

The wedding was held in the beautiful garden. Good thing the weather cooperated. It was a beautiful semi-formal wedding, it reminded me of my nephew Max’s. Having a friend officiate instead of a clergyman makes a big difference.

I did not feel up to dancing so I spent my time socializing. I took advantage of my friends dancing to sit and rest. I’m still recovering from surgery. I spent most of my time with Gene and Isabel or Sam and Kelly. I have known Sam for years but this was the first time I spent quality time with him and met his wife Kelly. We ended up having quite a bit in common, not just music, where I know Sam from but sports and geekery. Kelly is an engineer.

I was very happy to see Jill and Julius. They are old time Fruheads that I met at Falcon Ridge. I used to see them all the time but now camp at Shantytown so I just see them when our paths cross at the Festival. It was very nice to strengthen old bonds.

Uncharacteristically for me I was one of the first to leave. My body told me that it was time and I’ve been listening to it. My traveling luck continued in its usual pattern; the ride home took twice as long as the ride there. The trip is just two trains but I just missed each of them and the wait for the next one was unusually long. By the time I got home I was beat. I’m very happy that I left when I did even though it meant missing cheesecake.

I’d like to take it easy today but I might have to go shopping. I had ordered coffee from Ahrre’s Coffee Roastery and the Post Office delivered it to the wrong apartment. They are investigating but I won’t hear back until Wednesday and I’m going to run out of coffee today. This means I have to make a special trip to buy inferior coffee. Ahrre has totally spoiled me.

Now to eat my breakfast and finish my coffee. That will motivate me to go out. I would love to just relax today but that’s not to be. I also have to figure out how to do laundry without straining my incisions but lifting too much weight. I’m going to try and put it in many small bags. It will be a pain but that’s metaphorical. If I try lifting all the laundry the pain would be physical.
