I Dream of Cheese

I had a series of uncomfortable and weird dreams last night. The weirdest was preparing a pack of American Cheese to use as playing cards for a bridge game. When it came time to play I couldn’t find the cheese so we had to use computer dealt real cards in official ACBL boards. I felt disappointed. In other dreams I had not one but two cars towed, the second when I came to pick up the first. In another I missed a turn and found myself driving down a spit of sand with water on either side of the car and no room to turn around. At least I didn’t wake up to find myself transformed into a giant vermin. I hate when that happens.

Yesterday I made my weekly pilgrimage to Bagel Bob’s for 55¢ bagels. Sure it means traveling about an hour into the City but those bagels give me a lot of joy. That’s the way to measure if something is worth it. Prices and time costs without context are meaningless. Is $1,000 a lot of money? It is for a bagel; it isn’t for a car. Is $100 Million a lot of money? It is for a person or a city or state but not for the Federal government. The US spent over $4 Trillion in 2018. $100 Million Is just  0.0025% of that. When someone talks about how expensive a $100 Million program is for the US government they are showing their own ignorance. Context is everything.

When I got home from Bagel Bob’s and Trader Joe’s I had a great dinner; a Brooklyn Banger Cheddar Brat and a Nathan’s hot dog with a yellow plantain cooked in bacon fat. Never throw out your bacon fat, keep it for cooking. It makes anything better.

Today I have to do laundry, I’m almost out of clothes. I’m should go out tonight to see Birds of Chicago in Hastings. They are a special band that I have not seen many times. I suspect that I won’t have the energy. If the weather improves as it is supposed to I’ll be more likely to go. Missing the show goes against my self-image. That’s always difficult.

Talking about food made me hungry. I’m going to make breakfast. Poached eggs are on the menu.
