I’ve become a late in the day blogger. I prefer writing in the morning because I think that’s easier for My Gentle Readers. Don’t blame me, blame my friends that have eaten into my blogging time. Yesterday Bri called me, today I met Carolyn for lunch. I wouldn’t normally want to blame my friends but those are two of my favorite people in the world and figure they are two of your favorite people and you’ll sooner forgive them than me. I know I couldn’t get mad at either one.
Carolyn lives in the Boston area so seeing her is out of the ordinary. She is in town for a wedding. Last night after she arrived she realized she’d have time to see me today early so we made the lunch plan. I asked her where she was staying. It was a few blocks from Hill Country Barbecue Market so I zeroed in on eating there. I can’t resist great barbecue.
We agreed to meet at noon, I got there at noon. I’m proud of my accurate commuting. I should have gotten there earlier but the 6 train was a bit late. I allowed time for that. I am proud of silly things.
My therapist is going to let me have it. I often complain that friends don’t want to spend time with me and in the last week and a half I’ve spent time with friends many times. I’m meta-complaining, I’m complaining about my lack of something to complain about. Being my therapist is a challenge. Being my friend is a challenge; that’s why only the best people can do it.
What did we talk about? Shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings, and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings. Clearly pigs don’t have wings, if they did Hill Country would serve them, not just ribs, pork belly, and pulled pork. The pork belly was new and amazing. The company was new, at least in New York City, and amazing. Carolyn is a Falcon Ridge friend. I see her then and when I visit Joe and Emily for Thanksgiving. She is part of my life because she was Emily’s student as a kid and became their kids’ babysitter. She’s can’t sit on her hair and is not as tall as my dad but she’s still the best one that we ever had.
I didn’t time things but we spent hours in Hill Country talking till she had to go and meet people from the wedding. It was well worth missing blogging for.
Keeping to the subject of pigs I proved that I am one by going to Big Daddy’s Diner afterward for one of their special milk shakes. I’m not in the neighborhood that often and couldn’t miss the chance. I had the “Chocoloco; so good it will drive you crazy! shaved chocolate, chocolate syrup, chocolate fudge, whipped cream.” They somehow attach chocolate bits to the outside of the glass and you have to pick them off it. It was incredible. Between that and the barbecue I had enough calories to last me a week. Good thing they discovered that all those warnings about fat were off-base or my arteries would have been filled with sludge.
I said I’d binge watch Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance but after watching one episode I decided that I needed to rewatch the original movie. I started doing that and found that I remembered things correctly and the TV is directly contradicting things said in the original. I don’t think that’s a mistake, it’s so good that I’m sure it will be explained, that things aren’t as they seem. Carolyn is excited about the show too. That makes me extra happy as I have always thought of her as a Gelfing.
Now to finish the movie, watch at least one episode of the new series, and get some reading in tonight. As I’m reading A Clash of Kings this will be an immersive fantasy experience.
