I didn’t manage to write yesterday, I’m trying again today. Monday night i went to the Met game, They lost to the Marlins 8-4. They had been losing 6-0. My plan was to leave at 10 as I had been up since 5 AM and had to be in WFUV early the next day.  Then Amed Rosario hit a grand slam making the score 6-4 and i figured I’d stay. Then they immediately gave up two more runs so i left after 7 innings. That was the end of the scoring. Theoretically they aren’t eliminated but for all practical purposes they are. Typical Mets, a good season means being competitive, not good. They have not won over 90 games since 2006.

Yesterday’s adventure was throwing my back out. I don’t know how it happened, but it hurt like hell if I moved in the wrong way. I had brought my ice pack with me for my arthritis and it helped but i really needed heat. This was muscle pain. When i got home i put the heating pad on it and it helped. It still hurts if I’m not careful. I have to find just the right way to move.

It’s just like Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in the house dealing with impeachment, they have to move in just the right way so it won’t hurt. It was never about Pelosi excusing Trump’s behavior or not treating it seriously. It was about political realities. The Democrats were able to retake the house despite partisan gerrymandering and geographic disadvantages because districts that went for Trump voted Democratic in the midterm elections. Those districts can easily be lost in 2020 and Pelosi has been trying to protect those representatives. She was thinking strategically and practically not cravenly. It’s far more important to get Trump out in 2020 than getting to feel good about impeaching him, if it leads nowhere

The calculus has now changed with the latest revelations about Trump pressuring Ukraine to investigate Biden. There are still risks. But Pelosi and the leadership have now judged that the effort is worth it. The best evidence of change is that the Senate voted by unanimous consent to demand to see the full whistle-blower report. Till now the Senate Republicans have had Trump’s back. We’ve come full circle, talking about backs.
