Baseball Crohn's disease Health Politics

Sometimes Nothing Is a Real Cool Hand

I’ll get right to my health. The obstruction cleared last night after I went to bed. I’m not out of the woods yet which is proved by me writing this instead of eating. I haven’t eaten in 60 hours; I should be starving. I will eat something as soon as I’m finished writing. I’ll have to see what I feel up to. I wish I wasn’t out of ham. Poached eggs with ham and cheese is the food that sounds perfect right now. I could make it with sausage but that feels like too much. I could try it with peanut butter. A peanut butter omelet is my usual after Crohn’s meal.

I didn’t watch the debate last night and from what I read, I made a good decision. I watched at least part of all four AL Wildcard games. Baseball has been berry berry good to me. The first campaign I worked for was Eugene McCarthy in 1968. After he lost the Democratic nomination his next project was covering the World Series. He too loved baseball and needed it as an antidote to politics. There was no chance that watching the debate would alter my perception of the candidates so watching was not my civic duty.

I see that many people don’t understand what it means to win a presidential debate. Winning does not consist of speaking more and louder than your opponent. It means getting people to vote for you. Right now, Biden has a comfortable lead. If nobody is swayed, he wins. Do you think Trump made an argument that he’d be a better president? If you had never heard of either candidate would you vote for the guy that’s out of control? Ever see Cool Hand Luke? Who won the fight?
