It is ridiculous that I’ve waited this long to write today but that is where my head is out. I’ve been dysfunctional of late. I’m not going to dwell on that and instead discuss what I’ve done the last few days. On Sunday I made another pilgrimage to Ditmas Park to hear a porch concert and hang out with Katherine. The band this week was The Ladles. I discovered them this year and fell in love with their recordings. I couldn’t wait to see them in person. I saw two of them the previous week as part of Tucci Swing. I always spin my wheels when leaving for the Brooklyn shows and end up getting there exactly on time instead of early. I was actually two minutes late because the Q train ran local on the R line. As I turned down Marlborough RD I was a bit surprised to not see a crowd on the sidewalk. I also didn’t hear any music. I got to the house and there was nobody there and no sign. I had found out about the show on Instagram and checked their latest post. It said the show was on Saturday! I’m an idiot! I missed it by a day. I called Katherine who had not arrived yet and told her what happened. A woman sitting on the porch next door said something to me. I thought she heard what happened, but she hadn’t. I told her and she told me it was supposed to be on Sunday, and they changed it. I’m not an idiot, I just missed the update. Then she asked me if I was the guy that fell over and hit my head the week before. I fessed up. This is why she looked familiar. She was one of the people that helped me. I introduced myself, I figured she saw me screw up twice so she should know who I am. She travels in my circles. I’m sure I’ll see her again.
Katherine was a block away when I called, and I waited for her. We made the best of it and went out for ice cream and the new place on Cortelyou. Last time I had a cup, this time an amazing shake. I just checked the place is called Whats the Scooooop and my order was the Let’s Chocobout It; Chocolate & Cookies & Cream Ice Cream – Chocolate Sprinkles – Chocolate Chips – Hot Fudge. It looked like this.
I didn’t get to hear the music I wanted but I got a great shake, quality time with a friend, and quality time with her dog. I’m not complaining. I then took advantage of being out to save myself a bus fare and going straight from Brooklyn to Aldi on the Bronx. I thought of it as saving one bus fare as normally I’d take a bus both to and from the store, but this way it was just one extra fare. It was even better than that. I headed on the bus home close enough to when I boarded the train in Brooklyn to get the free transfer! I have to remember that trick. Good thing I take little time to shop. My parents would be proud of my frugality
I had to take the bus again today to get to my infusion. I had been getting car service courtesy of Medicaid, but it ran out and I couldn’t get in touch with the social worker to renew it. That was extra annoying as it rained today, and it takes two buses to get there. On the bright side I wore my trench coat and rain hat and I like the way I look in that outfit. With my mask and the black hat, it looked like I was ready to rob a bank or maybe a stagecoach. I once again took advantage of already taking public transit and bought bagels across the street from where I get my infusion. They were hot! I also went to Stop & Shop. I won’t need to do any shopping for a while. Everyone is good about wearing a mask in the store but why can’t people manage the one-way aisles? They are very clearly marked.
When I got home I made sausageeggandcheese on a hot bagel! That was exciting. I made the treat extra-special by using pepper jack cheese. Then I made real coffee. They had free coffee at the infusion center, but it was not good. After drinking 12 Oz of bad coffee and two mugs of good coffee what did I do? Fall asleep. I have talent. That’s part of why I’m posting so late. Now I’m all caught up and I’ll get on with my procrastination.
Coda: I made a typo writing sausageeggandcheese and spellcheck caught and corrected it. It is officially a word.
