Breathe

I just found out tomorrow is Election Day. How come nobody is talking about it? I mean, how come nobody is talking about anything else? Karyn just summed up what I was going to write in a Facebook post. “Breathe.” I said this before, but it bears repeating, don’t torture yourself with what-ifs. Are you preparing for Armageddon tomorrow? Unlikely but many of you are sweating bullets over it. My questions are if it’s worth taking the bus over to Aldi to go shopping? Is there any half-priced Halloween candy left? Should I go get a COVID-19 test? Can I combine any two of those? As for the election I’m not going to be glued to the TV awaiting results. Really good chance we won’t know anything early unless Florida comes in big for Biden. If it does you can pop the cork on the champagne. I’ll check in on FiveThirtyEight during the evening while I do other things.

I’m in an odd situation. If we graded on a curve I wouldn’t have high anxiety. Mine is where it always is but everyone else has not just caught up to me, but many have surpassed me. I’m used to it, leave anxiety to the professionals. It’s not as easy as it looks. I’m not going to be terrified over civil unrest. Can it happen? Sure, but the odds of anything happening that will affect my safety are tiny. If you read about a clash in Milwaukee don’t convince yourself that the country is in a civil war. That’s what Trump did based on a few protests in Portland and other places. He tried to scare the nation and it didn’t work. Don’t be like Trump. The most likely scenario for violence starting is people preparing for violence by their opponents. If you hear the Proud Boys or the like making trouble, the worst thing to do is go and fight them. That’s what they want. They want chaos. We want peace, love, and understanding.

Do your civic duty. Vote if you haven’t already. Encourage others to vote. Don’t text them, people are getting annoyed at that. Show your colors. I know some of My Gentle Readers will be working the polls. That’s great. It’s what I wanted to do. The New York City Board of Ed screwed up royally so I’m not. No matter what will happen the sun will rise, and the stars will circle the heavens. We’ll deal with whatever we have to deal with when it happens. Listen to Doris Day.
