I’m Free

I finished recording my 2020 albums show for Folk Music Notebook. It’s going to be played on Wednesday at noon and 6 PM EST. You don’t want to miss it. This is what everyone is going to be talking about at the water cooler on Thursday. Make that on Facebook; it has replaced the water cooler as the pop culture conversation nexus. So, if you want to look cool listen to the show and tell everyone how you knew about this album long before I played it and what a bad choice that album was, and I should have played one you think is much better. Why are you all looking at me like I’m delusional? It’s tough being an internet radio superstar.

I’m out of my COVID-19 isolation! I didn’t have it, but NY COVID-19 app told me that I had been exposed that tested positive a few weeks ago. Good timing. I’m out of eggs and milk. I’m pretty much driven by food. When I talk to Katrina I often tell her to bring me dinner as I don’t want to get up and make it myself. For Christmas she did! This was via DoorDash. I ordered it last night. I feel like a prince having food brought to my door. I know people get food delivered every day, but I never do that. I got an amazing burger from the Bronx Burger House, Monterey jack cheese, cheddar cheese, jalapeno jack cheese, Swiss cheese, bacon, and a fried egg, garlic fries, and a shake. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to move for days. I was wrong. It’s in Riverdale, only a few miles from here. I should go there when we can go to restaurants again.

I haven’t been going down to get my mail and didn’t realize I got holiday cards. That was exciting too. Back in the day I used to send 100 homemade cards out. Now, nothing. I should go back to doing that. The ones I got made me feel good. Of course, in those days I was working two jobs and had plenty of money. That makes a big difference.

I watched two movies, Wonder Woman 1984  and Soul. I have been looking forward to WW84 for months. Seventeen minutes in I posted on Facebook how good it was. Unfortunately, the film was all downhill from there. The plot was ridiculous and not at all suited to a superhero movie. It could have been an episode of the old Friday the 13: The TV Series. That had nothing to do with the movies and was about tracking down cursed objects. The way it was handled was closer to Supernatural, Friday the 13 was well written. I still got to watch Gal Godot for two hours, so it wasn’t a total waste of time. I’m going to marry her. She is perfect for the part, looks just like the character in the comics. Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman on TV was also perfect and was my big crush of the time. How come Superman is one word but Wonder Woman is two? Is this some kind of sexism thing? Before WWII baseball was usually written as two words, “base ball.” Look it up in old newspaper articles. It’s so weird. Somehow fighting Nazis fused the two words together but even though Wonder Woman fought Nazis herself, the same fusion did not occur.

I knew nothing of Soul until friends started raving over it on Facebook. I decided to give it a try. My friends were right to rave. It got a little preachy at times but for the most part was great. Did anyone else think that the cat was modeled on the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland? The film had a great jazz score by John Batiste. The parts that weren’t jazz were by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. I loved the animation, the artwork, and the story. It wins on all counts. I am going to lose my reputation as a curmudgeon if I keep this up.

I have to go out and buy eggs and milk before I eat. That means I should shave. I think it’s been a week. It’s at the itchy phase. I will force myself to be good, finish this, read my emails, shave, and go out. My reward will be breakfast, that I’ll eat while the world eats lunch.

Addendum: There’s an idiot story. I never posted this. I’ll do it now.
