I need to write, and I need to buy potatoes. I’ll write first as that does not require moving. I talked to Brian on the phone yesterday, the first time in a while. While we were on the phone the front doorbell rang. I shouted, “I’ll be right there I’m getting a mask.” As I was on the way to get my mask he pounded on the door. I got the mask on and there was nobody there but there was a package. It was about the size of a box of cremated human remains and asked Brian if he had sent me that. He hadn’t. It was tough to open but it was well worth the effort, it was a box of orgasm, aka a tin of no chewing allowed hot chocolate mix and of tin of their French truffles. There is nothing in the world better than a cup of their cocoa with one of their truffles dropped into it. I usually buy it at the holiday market, but I didn’t go this year. I don’t think they had it. What I have is the best friends in the world. This friend has sent it to me before. She’s married but she knows she has an open invitation to marry me. I will have it after I go out for the potatoes. It’s always best when you come in from the cold. Here’s what it looks like.
After talking to Brian, I watched a Zoom concert with Deni Bonet. That counts as more socializing time Last night I finished watching Titans on HBO Max It was much better than I expected. It even has Krypto the Superdog! The part was well cast. The show is an outgrowth of the old Teen Titans comics and animated series aimed at younger audiences. This show is much darker than anything in the Arrowverse. But it has the cute dog, so all is good.
Today a miracle occurred, I remembered to listen to my Top albums of 2020 show on Folk Music Notebook. Don’t worry if you missed it. It’s repeated at six and again and midnight, all EST. I love that as a run up to the show Ron played a set of favorite musicians of mine, I’m guessing that was not intentional. There was House of Hamill, Sharon Goldman, Pat Wictor, and then South for Winter. The last had my album of the year, Luxumbra. I am confident of my choice.
I listened to the entire show. I have learned to not cringe at my voice. I love my musical choices. I’m good at this. My delivery can still use some work. That will come with time. I remember when the Mets first hired Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling to do the TV broadcasts. They were halting and hesitant. Now they are two of the best I’ve ever heard. I know I have a way with words, I write this. People listen to me as I ramble on. I can teach. I’m getting closer to sounding to the way I do in my head.
What you missed the show? No worries, it’s being repeated at 6 PM and midnight EST. You better watch, this is going to be on the test, the test to see if you get into heaven. Sorry I don’t make the rules. Perhaps you should listen to it twice. You should certainly tell your friends to; you don’t want to be alone in heaven. Once again here’s the link, Folk Music Notebook.
I hope I’m not jumping the gun, but we are discussing me doing a weekly show. I’d love that. I registered for the Folk DJ listserv and I’m going to report what I play so I’ll contribute to the charts. I’ll have less imposture syndrome calling myself as a DJ. With perfect timing Jake sent me a link to register for Folk Alliance International. It’s going to be virtual and pay what you want this year so I can go. I registered as a DJ/Blogger. If you are a folk musician send me your music. No guarantees that I’ll play anything as I’m an even pickier listener than I am an eater. No to green vegetables and yes to peanut butter omelets. I have no idea who the musical equivalents are.
I also pre-registered for my coloscopy. Part of the COVID-19 screening is seriously out of date, “Have been to China, Hong Kong or Italy in the last 14 days. None of those is close to the US in infection rate now. They ask if you’ve been to the United States? When she reviewed when my appointment was for she said an hour and a half earlier than I had on my calendar! Then she sent me a link to the preregistration that included a download of the appointment to my calendar. I downloaded it. It was the time I originally had. I asked if the actual procedure was at noon and I was supposed to get there early. She said no, it was at 11:00. So, I’m going to get there at 10:30 like she asked and might have to wait around before or after. She didn’t have all the details. I’ll look through my paperwork in the meantime. Maybe it’s there. I’ll have to check that anyway as I need to buy the prep. It’s not the usual prescription gallon of horrible liquid. It’s something I mix with Kool-Aid. I have to buy Kool-Aid too. Why aren’t I taking the usual stuff? It’s on backorder. This is probably due to COVID-19. I give everyone a COVID-19 pass this year. That might be a good attitude to adopt in general.
Those potatoes are not going to roll their way to my apartment. I get them at a little stand on the other side of Mosholu Parkway. They are much cheaper than elsewhere. I’ll have to see if they have the little white potatoes. They didn’t when I went to Aldi. I need them to make Syracuse Salt Potatoes. Those are supposed to be a staple for me now. Damn, that means getting up and getting dressed. Life is so hard.
