I’m practicing what I preach this afternoon. With the new strains of COVID-19 we need to be even more careful. I found KN95 masks 10 for $10 and bought a pack. They don’t arrive until Tuesday. My plan was to go to Aldi today. The bus stops much closer to me on Sundays and I’m out of snacks. The plan was to go there today but I decided that it’s not worth the risk; I’ll wait until I have my more protective mask and double mask when I’m in the store. I’m not going to stumble as we approach the finish line. Now I have the opposite problem. I mentally prepared myself to stay home but I need to buy potatoes. That’s not nearly as risky, it’s out a local market and the potatoes are outside the store. I just have to go in to pay. But now I want to stay indoors and watch football. Yes two weeks in a row! Not only that but I turned off music to watch. It was billed as banjo and bagpipes but all I was hearing was not particularly inspiring choral music. I know guests were joining them, but I didn’t feel like waiting for them. I’ve already watched all or parts of three streaming shows today, Amy Speace, Chuck Brodsky, and The Kennedys. Chuck and Pete & Maura play the same time every week. It’s not fair. Guys, one of you should change by an hour. Bring back live music and I’m back to only watching streaming shows from people I can’t otherwise see.
Yesterday was one of the best, The Folk Music DJ Emerging Artist Showcase. This was a virtual edition of the NERFA DJ showcase. I explained yesterday why I like its format better than most showcases. Two of the artists, Jaspar Lepak and Abby Posner impressed me enough that I asked for them to send me their music. I have a backlog to listen to now. Last night I was good and recorded Gord’s Gold for Folk Music Notebook. For a while, my deadline was Wednesday, one week before airing. I moved that to Sunday, so getting done yesterday counts as being ahead of schedule. I had to do some research on the artist, Fred Smith. I know Fred well, but he has a lot more backstory than most musicians. I’m not going to spoil my show, if you want a preview go to his website or look him up on Wikipedia. Funny thing, when I went to Wikipedia I recognized his picture. It’s mine and I submitted it. I didn’t remember doing that. The article has been totally revamped over the years, but my photo remains. It was taken at the Song Box on Long Island. It was a show that Fred did with Pat Wictor. Cheryl Prashker backed both of them. Cheryl is watching football too. Fred is Australian so I doubt he is unless it’s Australian Rules Football. From what I’ve heard, Fred’s experience in warzones might be useful in ARF.
Whoa, I forgot I was writing. Why the “Whoa?” I know that I’m an idiot. Tampa won their game; I hate Brady so rooted against them. KC is losing 9-0 to Buffalo. I root for KC because Mahomes might be good enough to win more Super Bowls than Brady. I hate Brady but he is my pick for greatest QB ever. How much is that and how much his teams? I don’t know but he’s near the top of all the stat categories and way out ahead in Super Bowls. I’ve always been afraid of him going into politics and that was before he was a Trump supporter. Now the Chiefs are winning 21-9. Never bet against Mahomes.
I keep putting off writing on a few topics. They all involve trying to get people to think differently. The trick is to write about getting myself to think differently. I work on that all the time. The difficulty is that one of the things I’m working on myself is not assuming I’m right, even when I am. I’m not a fair judge of the evidence when it involves me. It’s natural to prefer the way you think. I’m going to hold off writing until I have this worked out better.
I once again got distracted without posting. This is ridiculous. I’m posting now, that or forgetting. Score at the half is 21-12.
