I got my first dose of vaccine! It was the puhfizer. My appointment was for 9:45 which meant I could wake up my usual time, 8:00 but couldn’t relax as much as usual. I didn’t eat or make coffee. I was not able to arrange for a ride from Medicaid, so I walked. Taking a bus would not have saved me enough time to be worthwhile I look at is at taking a health day. I desperately needed the exercise; it was only 2.15 miles. I thought it was further but that’s how far Google said I walked averaging going and coming home. That’s about how much walking I like to do in a day. I should be doing that at least three times a week. It was a beautiful day though tough to dress for. It was 31ºF with the windchill, but the wind died as I went out, so I was too warm, except for when it picked up and then I needed the heavier jacket, hat, and gloves.
Things went smoothly once I was there. There were a few small hiccups. They gave me two forms to fill out but when I sat down I discovered they were both the same. So, I had to then go to the other room and get the right one. When I finished that the gentleman that was there to answer questions asked, “Did you fill out the fon?” He had an accent.
“Yes, both of them.”
“No, the fon.”
“Yes, here they are.”
“No, did you fill at the fon?”
That time he pointed to a paper with a QR code on it. He was trying to say phone. The only real objection I had with the entire procedure is nobody ever told me that there was a form to fill out on my phone. I don’t know what people without QR readers on smart phones were supposed to do. It was a form I had previously filled out online but was always told there was no appointments after I did.
When I got that in I was told to go to another room where I immediately got my vaccination. I couldn’t believe how small the hypodermic was. I didn’t feel a thing. It took me more time taking off my hoodie and gathering my things than to get the vaccine. Then I sat for five minutes until they told me I could leave. That’s in case somebody goes into anaphylactic shock. That’s a sever allergic reaction with dire consequences if untreated. The treatment is simple and fast, so in practice it’s not a danger. It’s also extremely rare.
I walked back without my hat or gloves on and my jacket open. That was perfectly comfortable. When I got home I made breakfast and had coffee. Yes I did all that without coffee! I’m a superman.
Last night I once again spent watching bands showcase at Folk Unlocked. I ran out of gas before the music stopped. I still discovered new music and started receiving downloads of albums. I’ll have homework to do after conference. I had to take time off to do Gord’s Gold work. I bundled four episodes and posted them on Mixcloud, that’s what the Gord’s Gold link goes to. Go listen now. Even if you listened to the show about Phil Henry on Folk Music Notebook yesterday I bet you don’t remember the three earlier shows, on Annie Sumi, Asaran Earth Trio, and Hawktail.
I don’t have to listen to what I put on Mixcloud. I just put in my reviews followed by two songs by each artist. Then I have to make a cover for the show which is always a collage of pictures of the artists. When I’m doing that I can’t concentrate on what I listen to, but I want to listen to something. I usually do what I’m doing now, listen to classical music on WQXR. Yesterday, as I was giving a last check to see if there is someone I absolutely couldn’t miss at a showcase I saw that Alice Hasen had a spotlight. I knew that would be fiddle tunes. I love Alice and listen to her very week so it’s musical comfort food. It made perfect music to work to.
Now I have real work to do. On Tuesday Gord’s Gold goes to a full hour and I have to record the show. I might be better off doing that now but I had to disappoint My Gentle Readers. I will get the show done for My Gentle Readers with time to spare. This is easier than going into detail like I do with the spotlights. I have to program the songs of course but I already have some sets in mind. What I’m going to have to work on after getting all this music from the conference is to not make it all instrumental and world music. That’s where my nose has been leading me. Now to put that nose to the grindstone and find more musical gold for My Gentle Listeners.
