Huzzah, I did something more than a Donut Walk™ yesterday. I went to visit a real live friend! I got on the subway, traveled to Brooklyn, and met Katherine in Prospect Park. I am losing my Brooklyn cred; I incorrectly pictured the Parkside subway station and its relationship to the park, and I know longer knew the park inside out. That is pretty much the only downside to the day. We played frisbee and walked through the park with Bella, Katherine’s dog. My day off from walking worked and my back was fine until I jumped to catch the frisbee, jumping was fine, coming down wasn’t. But even that went right away and there’s no pain today. This was even better than a Donut Walk™ and we walked further. I had a walk in a beautiful place in on a beautiful day. I played with a dog. I spent time with one of my favorite people. It was wonderful and I ended up walking further than for donuts.
Then we ate at a Thai restaurant. I not only discovered that I like Thai food, but that I can even eat green beans when they are covered in a hot and spicy sauce. That didn’t help the onions. It did wonders for the cashews that I love without the sauce. We ate outside, neither of us is ready for indoor dining yet. The restaurant had very cool outdoor heaters with gas flames enclosed in gas tubes. Child me is a bit disappointed in adult me. I didn’t spend all my time staring into the flames. I did think it was cool. I wonder if we could get it for the Budgiedome.
Before all that I had therapy with a pinch-therapist, mine is out until May. It’s not nearly as good as talking to Connie but it did help. She couldn’t believe that I hadn’t had coffee. I was talking a-mile-a-minute as I often do. Why didn’t I have coffee? Disaster struck; my French press broke! I had hot chocolate instead of coffee. I immediately went online and bought a new one. I thought of just buying a replacement glass carafe, the problem is that exactly the same price as buying an entire new press. Both the old one and the new one are Bodum. I might end up using the new carafe in the old holder. It was a cushioned plastic job that protected the carafe. I didn’t break in the holder, but in cleaning. The new one arrives tomorrow. That might mean two more days without coffee. I might get a coffee with my donut today.
The day that I did more than I’ve done in months translated to fewer words written than in months. That’s OK. As Tolkien said in writing about Bilbo’s Tie in Rivendell in The Hobbit; “Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway.”
I had to go online to find the exact quote. I used to write with a copies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, close at hand; when I need the exact wording of a quote I’d find it in the book. I don’t miss many possessions, but I miss my library, especially my bibles, Tolkien and Cabell, that I would quote often. Now it’s time to eat. Today’s plan is a Donut Walk™ and preparing and recording Gord’s Gold.
