Wow, another nighttime edition of Gord’s Gold, maybe this will become a thing. I have not talked about food enough of late. I thought of that when I was eating my eggs Horvendile this morning. This was a new variation. As always it’s two poached eggs topped with cheese and ham on top of some bread, usually an English muffin. It’s a poor man’s egg Benedict. Today I put it on the Aldi flatbread. That made it extra good. The pleasure to effort ration is enormous. When trying it at home heat the flat bread and ham on a skillet. Skillet heating is better than toasting.
Sunday night I made perhaps my favorite homecooked meal, sweet garlic chicken. As you can guess it involves a topping of garlic sauteed in olive oil and brown sugar. There’s more effort and cleanup than the eggs but it’s not that much. Here’s the recipe, My Fridge Food. This is what it looked like along with the roasted potatoes I made on the same baking pan.
I was mad at myself for not going out yesterday. I made up for it today by going to both Krispy Kreme and Aldi. They are nowhere near each other and I walked it with my wheeled shopping bag along for the ride. The route is a big triangle so of course I sang Triangle Trade from 1776. Shopping bag, to donut, to groceries! Who pulls the bags out of Bedford Park, loaded with bibles and rum? You should have seen them when I tried to trade them for donuts. The longest leg was Krispy Kreme to Aldi. Fortunately, Kingsbridge Road goes in almost a direct path. The advantage over walking from home is that I don’t have a huge flight of stairs on the way. I took the bus home with the full grocery bag. I walked 4.97 miles instead of my usually 3.25.. That burned 431 Calories, the donut is 190.
Gord’s Gold is on tonight I have already finished next week’s play list. I need to put it in a coherent order and figure out what to say. Instead of getting used to it I’m getting more and more satisfaction. I’m genuinely proud of the finished product. I’ve spent much of the last few days listening to music and putting songs I like on my “future plays” list. I’m still going through CDs from NERFA 2018. There were some I never got around to listening and some I haven’t listened to in years. There’s some great music there. Most CDs I skip through quickly, the good stuff I keep playing. On he the second leg of my walk I listened to Folk Music Notebook, to hear what my colleagues were playing. I was quite happy that my favorite song I heard was by The Ladles that I play. My first reaction was, “That’s great!” My second was, “Who is it?” Then came, “Is it the Ladles?” It was. It’s nice to get confirmation that your tastes are based on what you are hearing not your preconceived notions. I’m also happy when I hate a song and hear it’s by Dawes. I’m sure there are plenty of times my preconceived notions win out.
I forgot the most exciting thing that happened. I got a call from the therapist’s office. She’s back! I got first crack at an appointment. I’m talking to her tomorrow morning! It’s going to be odd as I will want to know about her. I suspect her mother died. That reminds me of more grief. My friend’s brother died; he was only 73. I only found out because I called the friend. I’ve known his brother for over 40 years. My friend is one of the kindest and smartest people but sometimes he doesn’t seem to know what’s expected of people. That’s humanity, we are all weird in our own way. You can acknowledge that and not make value judgments. Now to put this to bed and start telling people to listen to Gord’s Gold at 11 PM EDT. I just told you. You can listen on Folk Music Notebook.
