A Tale of Two Idiots

I’m behind on my blogging so now I have lots to write about. I had been looking forward to Friday for months; South for Winter was playing at the Troubadour in New Jersey. Sure, that’s two hours from me but this is South for Winter, my favorite band. I’m a Snowbird, the name I came up with this week for fans of South for Winter. I took the subway to Penn Station, the D to the A, and then NJ Transit out to Morristown, the home of the Troubadour. The train was a little wait and Brian and I had trouble finding each other and our free time for dinner was greatly cut into to. We rushed dinner and then headed out to the home of the Troubadour, the Morristown UU.

We arrived about 10 minutes before showtime, and the parking lot is empty. The doors were locked. I found one open door in the back, but the building was empty. I knew I had the right day. I tried calling Mike Agranoff who runs the series and got his voicemail. We looked online to see if I had the date right, I did. Then my phone went dead, and I lost my charging cable. Finally on Brian’s phone was saw the show being streamed on FB live. I couldn’t get into the chat to find where it was. But then I finally saw that it was at a house in Rockaway NJ. I thought that was a different show. Mike called me back during the break. There was no way we could catch the show, it wasn’t close by.

I ended up traveling over four hours and didn’t see the show. All I got was hanging out with Brian. If I say that I enjoyed that Brian would think that I’ve been kidnapped and was signally him that I was in trouble. I got home after midnight. I was not a happy camper. At least I get an idiot story out of it and Brian didn’t kick me while I was down and rub it in. He knew that I’d publicly admit my idiocy.

Yesterday I went to the Met game. That was great. It was Mets Hall of Fame Induction Day. They inducted Jon Matlack, Ron Darling, and Edgar Alfonso, three of my favorite players. Little Al Jackson won the Hall of Fame Achievement Award. He spent 50 years working for the Mets. Reggie Jackson was there for that. Not the player in Cooperstown but Al’s son. Then came one of the most enjoyable games I’ve been to. The Mets fell behind 4-1 when the newest Met, two-time all-star Javier Baez hit a two-run home run in the 6th. The Mets tied it in the 9th and won it in the 10th. There is nothing in sports as exciting that a game that is close and late. The game hinges on every pitch. Baseball is a game of anticipation. We experience the future as much as the present.

Coming home I was “smart” I have had delays every time I come home on the D train, so I took the 4 train back to the Bronx. I had a 15-minute wait for the 4. That’s less than the half-hour wait I’ve had for the D, but the train is slower and it’s a longer walk home. I once again got home after midnight.

On the way home I saw on Instagram that Chris Thile & Michael Daves were doing a pop-up concert in Prospect Park today. I forwarded it to a friend and asked her to join me. I got home and realized that I have to go shopping and record Gord’s Gold today so I can’t go. Neither could my friend. That was fast plans made then broken. I need some live music but not today. That’s my cue to post this and go shopping.
