Welcome to a between games edition of Wise Madness. The Mets are playing a doubleheader. I could have gone to the game and should have gone today but I decided that was too much as I’m going out tonight and I went to the Met game yesterday. Yesterday was weird. Tuesdays game was suspended in the top of the second because of rain. This is new, until last season the game would have been called and replayed. Now the game is suspended and picked up from when it was suspended. After the suspended game the regularly scheduled game was to be played. I don’t know if that is considered a doubleheader, but it should be. The first game was 9 innings and the second game considered as the back end of a doubleheader and shortened to 7. Get all that?
I’m an idiot and left home a little later than I planned and then took the D train an extra stop and had to wait for the next uptown train to take me the 7 train. Because of that I missed the rest of the top of the 2nd and the entire bottom. When I arrived, the Mets were losing 4-1. That doesn’t sound hopeful but that’s neglecting the most important factor, I was at the game. The Mets battled all game and took the lead 8-7 in the bottom of the 8th. Diaz closed at the 9th for the save and a win by the Mets. Woo-hoo! It wasn’t just a win but a great game. The Mets should really pay me to go to game. I’d do it for major league minimum salary and of course tickets to the game. If they were smart, they’d give me a luxury box, complete with catering. I was going to say they should provide me with a limo to the games but that’s not environmentally friendly. Making the major league minimum I could afford and apartment near 42nd Street and could take the 7 train to games. That’s what John Olerud did when he was on the Mets. I think Keith Hernandez did that too.
As for the second game? It was rained out. That’s why I could go to the games today when they are making the game up as part of a doubleheader. The Ballpark App automatically put the ticket on my phone. That’s because it’s part of a season ticket plan. It was not a general raincheck that I could use for any game. If it were not a doubleheader starting at 12:10 I would have gone but I’m going to the Irish Session at Mary O’s
I got some exciting DJ news, but I just realized I can’t share it with you. I’ll just say I’ve been given the opportunity to do something I very much wanted to do. I’m working through my DJ imposter syndrome. With me it’s not a matter of how good I am but whether an hour a week on the radio counts. Madeleine Peyroux’s management thinks it counts, they sent me her music when I asked. That I can share. You’ll hear her tonight on Gord’s Gold on Folk Music Notebook. Know what I’m proudest of on the show? Yasmin Williams’s intro music that I fade into. I feel good every time I hear it. It’s like hearing Harlem Nocturn will forever be associated with Vin Scelsa in my head.
I am going to have to give up watching the Mets game, it’s just too hot; the room with the TV I can watch the Mets on doesn’t have AC. I’ll finish the bottom of the 3rd before I switch to listening on the radio in the room with AC. I’m wilting in the heat so that’s all they wrote.
