The reason I didn’t blog yesterday was the heat. I had in person therapy at 9:30 AM. What does that have to do with the heat? I’ll get to that. Getting there on time meant getting up early and leaving the house by 7:53; that’s how precise Google Maps is. I made it and it wasn’t that hot. The problem is it warmed up quite a bit by 8:50 when I got to Harrison. I then had to walk to the hospital. I hadn’t brought a proper sun hat and was hot and sweaty by the time I arrived. At least I remembered to apply 50 SPF sunblock, so I didn’t get burned. As you might imagine, it was even hotter when I came home. Even though I cover most of the distance on the train I had walked 6.5 miles in the heat. I took a cold shower when I got home and then pretty much collapsed. It doesn’t help that I got only 4.5 hours of sleep. That’s why I didn’t blog and do something more important when I got home.
I went to the Met game the day before, that’s why I was up late. I didn’t go with Alan but with Chris, Kevin, and Matt, a friend of Chris’s. We sat in an odd spot in the stadium that I decided to call Tribepp, Triangle Below Pepsi Porch. The problem with that name is that it’s no longer the Pepsi Porch or the Coca Cola Corner, I don’t know its name now. I could call it, Triatrific, triangle adjacent to right field corner. That’s a terrific name and now official. The unimaginative people in the Met front office call it part of section 105.

It’s on field level and we were within shouting distance of the right fielder. We were far from the infield, and it was difficult to follow fly balls to left field, they’d get lost in the lights. I’d sit there again. It was a nice change of pace. The game was not a nice change of pace, once again it was an exciting game that the Mets lost because they can’t score. That did not stop me from having a wonderful time with my friends. This was my first time hanging out with Chris and Kevin since COVID-19. It was an odd setting as I usually see them at concerts, and though I know Kevin through Chris, I’m usually with one or the other, not both. We then all took the 7 Train home together. That gave me some great catching up time.
I almost forgot the most important thing. I screwed up and didn’t bring dinner with me, so I bought ballpark food. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE ballpark food, it’s just too expensive. I don’t go for the exotic items, I’m at a ballgame so I get a hot dog; as Humphrey Bogart said, “A hot dog at a baseball game beats a prime rib at the Ritz.” Even better the hot dogs are the Nathan’s. Even better, they have switched to real Nathan’s franks, with the casing, like they serve at Coney Island. That’s the best hot dog on earth. It’s also one of the peaks of fries. They come in a combo. I understand why you save money when you order it like that, I don’t understand how you save calories. Take a look at the menu board. The combo has fewer calories that the fries alone. They don’t skimp on the fries in the combo, it’s a huge order.
I just realized that though I couldn’t blog I did find the energy and time to post this week’s Gord’s Gold on Mixcloud. I usually do that before the show is streamed on Folk Music Notebook but something interrupted me this week and I never did it. I also never finished researching what label all the songs are on so I can send the report into the Folk DJ List. I’ll do that today. You don’t have to follow any links. You can listen to the show right here. You should.
