Ugh. I’ve stayed home all day waiting for the super to come to fix something. It’s now almost 4 PM. I need to go shopping and do my laundry. Why haven’t I written my blog yet? You know, it’s because I’m an idiot. Why is this as far as I got writing? My phone rang. I left the house at 6, the super never came. I am not at all surprised. During the day the water was turned off with no warning. It was a day for complaints. As I got a late start and I had earned a special deal from Wendy’s I decided to grab dinner there before I went to Aldi, that was a big mistake. I have the app and ordered ahead. The food should theoretically be ready when I arrive. I got chicken nuggets and fries so there was no prep, those are constantly being made and all that’s involved is putting them into the carton and the carton in the bag. When I got there, I saw a huge crowd and was happy that I ordered ahead. Foolish me. After a ten-minute wait my order was up on the board as ready for pickup. I went to get it and was told that they weren’t going by the board. I didn’t get my order until 55 minutes after I submitted it! At first, I was defending the people that worked there, and I still am for the most part. They were short-handed and working extremely hard. The manager on the other hand deserved criticism. This was largely her fault. She’d ask, “Did anyone here order in person?” Then she’d take their receipt and give them their order. They had no wait whatsoever! She told me that she has one person working on instore orders and another on mobile. The fact that there were 20 people waiting with mobile orders and nobody waiting in store didn’t make a difference to her. When I told her I’d been waiting half an hour and then 45 minutes she just rolled her eyes at me. As they weren’t using the board, I thought perhaps I missed my name being called. I finally asked someone that wasn’t the manager if I might have missed my name being called, the manager would not look. One of the employees looked through the receipts that were stuck on a wall. It wasn’t there. Then she looked at receipts that were on a counter. Mine was there, she got my order ready in two minutes. They weren’t serving the customers in order. My order, along with others, was put off to the side and ignored. Thanks to the long wait I got to Aldi late and they were out of many things, including milk, the main thing I needed. I was not a happy camper. I had lost so much time that I took the bus home instead of walking. There went my evening. I was not a happy camper. Since started writing I’ve been on hold with Wendy’s customer service.
Monday’s adventure was a trip to the gastroenterologist. I had a long wait there too; they had accidentally overbooked him. They are usually great about that. I figured if he was behind it was because of an emergency. They have earned a large store of goodwill, so I was not upset. It was not like it would make me late for anything else. On the way home I stopped at Krispy Kreme. This week they aren’t giving you a free donut if you can show you have been vaccinated. They are giving you TWO free donuts. The extra was a limited time offering, a heart-shaped original glaze. KK has also built up a lot of goodwill.
I’m still on hold with Wendy’s. After I finally get through, I have to run to the local supermarket before it rains to get milk. It costs quite a bit more than at Aldi. While I’m there I’ll get meat gravy so I can make poutine. I have to be back here at noon as Dar Williams is making a special live announcement that I don’t want to miss.
Gord’s Gold is streamed Thursday night at 9 PM on Folk Music Notebook. I have until Tuesday night to send it in. If I don’t have if finished by Monday, I get antsy. I got it done but now I’m already getting antsy for next week’s show. I just got two new albums to listen to. I know that I’ll be playing a song from one of them. I just have to figure out which one. Choosing the music is the best part of being a DJ. I love when I come across something special. I’m also on a jury to choose the artists for new artists showcase at a festival. I went through the submissions, and nobody excited me, and I was down to just one more artist. They jumped out at me. It’s always exciting to find a new artist.
I am finally off the phone with Wendy’s. I waited on 50 minutes for them to take my call to complain that it took 55 minutes to take my order. The person I talked to was great and I’m going to now get a call from a district manager. I’d rather he said, “Here’s a $20 gift certificate, but I appreciate that he appreciated the problem I had. That’s all most people want. Now I’m going to make breakfast. I hope it isn’t raining by the time I’ve finished eating so I can stay dry when I get milk.
