Mmm Sweet Garlic

It’s 9:08 AM and I’m writing, how did that happen? I actually started before 9:00 but the insert time keyboard shortcut alt+shift+T wasn’t working. Instead that was opening the snipping tool. It wasn’t just in word but in all apps. I couldn’t figure out what happened until I googles alt+shift+T and discovered that happens in Zoom. I used Zoom for my interview on Tuesday and for some reason that feature stayed on. I had to open up Task Manager and stop the process. This is some sort of weird glitch in Zoom. Now if it happens to you, you’ll know what to do.

Yesterdays adventure no longer counts as an adventure, I went on my Donut Walk™. It was a beautiful day; temperatures in the high 70s. Don’t tell the fashion police but I work linen pants and sandals. The thing I like most about sandals is that I don’t wear socks with sandals and socks are the worst part of doing laundry. I’m getting spoiled, I am going out often enough that I have things to write about. Am I really going to write about food and TV? I’m afraid so.

There was excitement on the culinary front, I made my favorite homecooked meal, Sweet Garlic Chicken. Why don’t I make that more often? It’s been ages. It is not that labor intensive. Part of the problem is that I’m not buying boneless chicken breasts often enough. I should, just to make that. The sauce made from olive oil, brown sugar, and of minced garlic. I can’t swear that I mince it as I don’t know the difference between minced, diced, and chopped. It would take a lot of garlic, but I’d love to serve he sauce as an appetizer to be put on crackers. It’s amazingly good. Usually when I make chicken, the chicken is the star of the dish, not here. I don’t have any desserts in the house, so I ate one of my favorite vamps. I put chocolate syrup on Cheerios before I pour the milk. When I’m eating them as a meal, I use honey instead of chocolate syrup. That’s delicious. When you finish the cereal what’s left is honey milk. Why don’t people drink honey milk? It’s so good. Maybe that’s what the bible was referring to when it described Canaan, the future Israel, as a land flowing with milk and honey. Honey milk would be quite refreshing after wandering for forty years in the desert, a post-desert dessert.

Now for TV, I have finally given up on half the Arrowverse, Batgirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Supergirl is hanging by a thread and Stargirl is not on firm footing. I’ll see how The Flash does when it comes back. It’s fallen a long way from its heyday. They have all become soap operas. Why does every superhero have a team? Why does every member of the team acquire powers? Early Arrow and The Flash were so good. The not so long in the past Crisis on Infinite Earth was great TV. On their own they are all flailing.

One last bit of catch-up, sleep. After a lifetime of insomnia, a switch went off in my name and I became a healthy sleeper. My head would hit the pillow and I’d be out in minutes. Now the insomnia is back, and I’ve developed the bad habit of playing on my phone in bed. At 11:45 my phone alarm goes off to remind me to get ready for bed. Ideally, I do the dishes in 15 minutes, head to bed, fall asleep even if using phone first, by 12:30 the latest, and wake up at 8:00 when Jean Rohe sings Arise! Arise! to me. Instead, I’ve been getting into bed later and not putting the phone away until 2 AM. To make it worse I am often waking up between 6 and 7 AM. This leads to naps during the day. That’s not how I want to live my life.

I might have double plans tonight. First, I’m seeing Jesse Malin at the Sheen Center. I know the name, but I have no idea what his music is like It’s a WFUV Marquee Member show and I’m Jim’s +1. I’m going to hang out with Jim. I hope I like Jesse Malin. If I’m feeling up to it, I’ll head over to Mary O’s for the Irish Session. That’s supposed to be my default Thursday plan, but I haven’t been there in ages. I’ve either had other plans that night or had so many plans the other nights that I needed the evening at home. It’s not that far from the Sheen Center so I think I’ll try it. I need more Irish music in my life.

Gord’s Gold is on tonight at 9 PM on Folk Music Notebook. Make sure to listen. If you miss it, it’s rerun at 2AM. It starts off with a tribute to Dan and Anna’s wedding. Now to make breakfast.
