Where did the day go? Part of it went into laundry. The thing is I have to go out soon and I didn’t write yesterday and I had a busy day on Tuesday. I just discovered that the New York Botanical Garden is free for Bronx residents. I’m a Bronx resident that loves nature and needs to get exericise so I walked over there, all of a 10-minute walk, and explored. I did not plan my route. The only goal I had was to at some point cross the Bronx River. I knew about where a bridge was. Before that I just chose whichever way looked most interesting. I then managed to get lost. The sky was cloudy so I couldn’t navigate by the sun. I finally found where I was when I came to boundary of the Gardens and saw the Bronx Zoo across the street. I then broke down and looked at the map before going back to traveling by instinct. I knew I could just follow the river until I got to the bridge. When I say “Botanical Garden” you are probably thinking, “Flowers!” There are flowers but there’s a lot more. For the most part the gardens are part of Bronx Park and it looks like wilderness. Some parts are as they would have been before Europeans came to America. Others look natural but have plants from all over. The biggest single part of the park is the Thain Family Forest, which is as the name implies, a forest. I ended up walking 7.2 miles. That’s the longest walk I have recorded. Sadly my phone decided to lose all my walking data. It started fresh yesterday. Time is gaining on me so I’m just going to post pictures and tell the story of the day in captions.
It’s now the next day. I couldn’t finish before I had to leave. My phone found the record of my walk. I was wrong. I walked 7.02 miles. Later I have to write about seeing Jean Rohe last night. I found new things to say. I wanted to write about food but that’s all lost in the distant past now.
