Another Thanksgiving Dinner That Couldn’t Be Beat

I’m home, relaxed, and ready to write. How did I spend my Thanksgiving? Alone in my apartment that I never left. I never got dressed. That’s always a great luxury. I had long satisfying conversations with two friends which kept the loneliness at bay. For dinner I ordered a duck from Chinese restaurant via GrubHub. The delivery time window was 7:10-7:20. At 7:18 I got a text that the delivery was canceled. The explanation was that the restaurant was closed or wasn’t taking more orders. They must have known that before then. I got a refund, but I had to then make dinner. The chicken breast I took out to make sweet garlic chicken hadn’t defrosted yet, so I went for bratwurst and mash. That’s an excellent dinner so I can’t complain.

I decided to watch a movie in the evening and chose a favorite that I had never seen the end of, The Ruling Class starring Peter O’Toole. If you love surreal films that play with levels of reality and social consciousness, this is a must see. It’s an amazing film and O’Toole was magnificent. He plays the heir to a British earldom, thus the title, who has been institutionalized for eight years because he thinks he’s Jesus. O’Toole looks the part. We see reality partially through his eyes so there are spontaneous music numbers. I loved it except for the end, the part I had never seen. I found that a bit jarring. Still put that on your list of must-see films.

I prepared next week’s Gord’s Gold before this week’s aired. The show helps quite a bit with my depression. Every week I produced something that I am proud of. If you are reading this after noon you can listen to the Thanksgiving show. Here’s the playlist.

  1. Jess Klein   –        New Thanksgiving Feast
  2. Rebecca Loebe    –        Thanksgiving
  3. Night Tree –        Thanksgiving
  4. Arlo Guthrie       –        Alice’s Restaurant (The Massacree Revisited)
  5. Amy Speace        –        Three Days
  6. Low Lily    –        Ten Thousand Days like These
  7. Guy Davis –        200 Days
  8. Harpeth Rising   –        Four Days More
  9. Lead Belly –        Goodnight Irene

I took a break from the film to listen to the show. Damn those songs are good. Except for Arlo and Lead Belly I suspect that some of you know none of the remaining artists and nobody knows all of them. I’m an idiot. I will refrain from posting this until after noon so I can embed it right here.

I also created the Facebook event for the December edition of John Platt’s On Your Radar which features my friends the Bobtown Trio. I expect everyone in New York to join me there, Bobtown Trio, Rickey Stein, and Sue Horowitz On Your Radar. Buy your tickets now while they are still fresh.

We’ve had a lot of half-days and such at school. On Wednesday we had only 5 of the 7 periods then everyone went down to the cafeteria for a Thanksgiving pot luck. I had no duties and ended up spending time elsewhere in the building especially the office visiting my friend Sandy. I was rewarded because one of the teachers made magnificent barbecue chicken that as falling off the bone, and left it in the office. When I finished that I went back to the cafeteria where the food line and become manageable for desert but saw they had jerk chicken so I took that and baked mac and cheese in addition to deserts. I had two lunches, I am a bottomless maw.

At the end there was still mac & cheese and apple pie left so I took some to bring home. The mac & cheese never made it there. On the subway a homeless person literally went down on his knees and begged for money for food. I gave the dish to him. I won’t give money to beggars as I’ve been told by professionals that just enables them but I will give food when I have it. I enjoy doing that even more than eating the food. Well not the apple pie, I kept htat for myself for dinner. I’m no saint. I’m a selfish person that got pleasure from giving him my food.

Not blogging every day makes it more difficult for me to blog when I have the time. I have political and philosophical ideas I’d like to discuss but I don’t feel comfortable writing about them when I’m not writing about other things. I also don’t want to write about my current depression. That’s what I have a therapist for. Writing is good for my me, it’s part of my selfcare. I need to find a way to do it regularly.

I’m going to make breakfast now; wait or it to be noon, it’s now 10:43 AM, then embed my Thanksgiving show. I might tell you about breakfast too. See you soon.

I’m back. Did you miss me? I made Eggs Horvendile, that’s a poached egg on an English muffin topped with a slice of cheese, that cheese was pepper jack melt, and a slice of ham. It was delicious. Now I’m watching the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. So 13:45 in it’s great. OMG, Kevin Bacon is watching Santa Clause Conquers the Martians! I saw that in the theater when it came out. I am the target audience. I love the sound track. Speaking of which, here’s The Gord’s Gold Thanksgiving Spectacular!
