The Downfall of the Lord of the Mondays and the Return of the Air Fryer

Some Mondays are more Monday than others or as David put it; “I hate it when Friday the 13th falls on a Monday.” I left the house this morning but had to go back because I realized I didn’t have my coffee. I got on the subway and went to do my usual morning routines and discovered that I did not have my glasses. I got to school in time for my 8 AM Setss class, tutoring one student, and he didn’t show up. I went to check my email and got a message on my phone that I wasn’t connected to the Internet. I did not have airplane mode on, but I turned it off and then back on to make sure. No luck. I turned the Wi-Fi off to no avail. I restarted the phone, that didn’t do it. I’m free fourth period so I went to the dollar store for reading glasses. As the internet was working earlier I thought it might work when I was away from the school, but it didn’t, I went through all my settings and discovered that I had mobile data turned off. I have no idea how that happened. I am never in that part of the phone menu.

I got back from getting glasses and discovered that I was locked out of my classroom. My key was in the bag which was in the classroom. I got the key from the admin and checked my email. Turns out that  was missing an assembly. To be honest, I’m not upset about missing that.

I don’t want to tell tales literally out of school but there were parts of teaching today that were very frustrating. I can accept the things I cannot change but the issue is that I might be able to change things but it may cause interpersonal friction. I’m not quite sure of my duties and responsibilities in this situation and I’m not comfortable asking about it. I might bring it up today with a supervisor.

Now onto what’s important, my new air fryer! I loved our old one but it was a cheapie and more of a simple convection oven. It didn’t have the air fryer basket. My new one does, and it also works better than the old as a toaster. On Friday I made a dark chicken quarter. I kept it simple, I just sprayed it with olive oil then added garlic salt, black pepper, and poultry seasoning. The air fryer has a chicken setting, the icon is a drumstick, half of what I was cooking. It doesn’t get easier than that. 30 minutes later I had a perfectly cooked leg. The skin was crispy. The meat was moist. It tasted delicious. It was the best chicken I ever made without a grill. Then came the scary part, cleanup. After the basket cooled I wiped it down with a paper towel, put a drop of dish detergent in it, filled it with water and left it. When I took it out in the morning I wiped it with a sponge and it was immaculate as when it was new out of the box. It didn’t just clean well, it cleaned easily.

Last night I made chicken tenders and baked potato. I cooked the potato for half an hour and the tenders for 10 minutes, right in the same basket. The potato had a crispy skin and fluffy interior. The chicken, which I prepared blackened, was so tender I could cut it with my fork, and did. Next time I might try it for only 9 minutes.

This morning I toasted a bagel. The default toasting time is 5 minutes. I prefer it less toasted than most so I set the timer to 4 minutes. That was perfect. Everything came out perfect. Whoever invented the air fryer gave a great boon to  humanity. National Air Fryer Day should be a bank holiday.

I watched the superbowl. It was a great game! Not only that but my team, the Chiefs, came from behind to win. Their quarterback, Pat Mahomes, willed them to victory. His performance reminded me of LeBron James. He did all that on a sprained ankle. His will is so strong he’d make a great Green Lantern. D.C. Comics should sign a deal with Mahomes and the NFL to make a special comic. In the finale Mahomes could make a construct of a football to throw at the enemy to win the climactic battle.

What I didn’t do was record Gord’s Gold. I planned on doing it during halftime but that’s when the cat demanded attention. Even if she hadn’t, my neighbors had Rihanna’s halftime show on so loud I couldn’t record. The show is all ready to send in except for the recording. I’ll write more about that tomorrow.
