Not Crossing the Line

I’m officially on spring break. After my wonderful Seder on Thursday and the Mets home opener on Friday I spent the weekend without leaving the apartment. Part of that was nice, part of that was a visit from my old friends, depression and anxiety. I was going to go to Aldi but found out that they were closed for Easter. But now I realize that I did go out on Sunday. There was a deal from Popeye’s that expired Sunday. If I spent $5, I’d earn 550 bonus points, enough for a free chicken sandwich. I could have gone to the closest one to me, but I’ve been having issues with ordering through the app from them, so I chose the second closest. I thought I knew where it was on Kingsbridge Rd. I didn’t. It was almost as far as Aldi. That’s actually a good thing I the round trip was over three miles and I have not been walking enough. I still find Popeye’s delicious. The walk did help my mental health.

Yesterday I had to do something that was causing me much of the anxiety, choose a benefits package from work. I waited a long time, but I did it. Usually, I feel worse after that kind of thing, I’m neurodivergent from other neurodivergent people. I like the way that sounded so I used a buzzword, something I avoid. Then I did something that helped even more, I went to my second Met game of the season. This time I left early enough to check out the new food. I rarely buy food at games, it’s so overpriced, but when I do it becomes a treat. I didn’t get my usual hot dog and fries; I got amazing Honey Chipotle Chicken Tenders with Cheeze Tater Kegs from Amazin’ Chicken Co. The food was overpriced but the order was not only great but also huge. I highly recommend it. You can find them at the plaza on field level near the Shea Bridge behind Centerfield.

We were able to sit in our usual seats in section 515, right behind the plate, not our assigned seats on 509 where our view is obstructed by the stairway. By chance we were sitting by some great fans. One fan won my heart by wearing a Megill shirt and booing Escobar. I never boo my Mets, but Escobar has to go. The guy sitting next me was knowledgeable and chimed in when Alan and I forgot something or got a fact wrong. He’s like me! Part of the fun of going to a game live is being with the other fans.

Scherzer’s First Pitch

As for the game, the Mets won 5-0! Scherzer labored but allowed only one hit and no runs over 5 innings. The relievers came through. There were two amazing plays. With a runner on second and nobody out Guillorme, one of my favorite players, laid down an absolutely perfect bunt. Hit hugged the third base line without ever going foul. The third basemen let it roll so it was a hit. Then two batters later Tomas Nido did the same thing accidentally. He swung but it hardly made contact and it too hugged the line without going foul. Take a look.

ESPN Video

With the Mets up 5-0 I moved down a level. My new seats were one section over from the TV booth. Here’s Gary, Ron, and the top of Keith’s head. I love watching the game from good seats. I wish I could talk Alan into moving down with me when he stays. Those seats are even cushioned! That’s living the good life.

Keith Hernandez, Ron Darlin, Gary Cohen

The ride home didn’t go well. The 7 train portion went off perfectly but there were delays on the D train. I waited a long time for the train and then it kept sitting in stations and sometimes between stations. At least I got a nap.

If I can get myself moving, I’ll go to Aldi today. It’s beautiful weather and I’ll walk. Tonight, I’m taking advantage of not having school to go to Jalopy to see. Sami Braman Brooklyn CD Release Party (Stephanie Coleman and Stephanie Jenkins Open!). I’m not familiar with Sami but I love the Stephanae. That is the proper plural of Stephanie. I checked Sami out and she sounded good. If the album passes to muster, I’ll play it on next week’s Gord’s Gold. As I was home all weekend, I’m way ahead of producing the show. Not only is this week’s all finished next week’s is already programmed. I’ll swap a song from Sami in.

Now it’s time for breakfast. Yesterday I had matzoh brei with peanut butter, today it will be grits ala Horvendile. I don’t have time to make that on school days. I’m not going anywhere but I’m trying to take as much advantage of my staycation as possible. I have no plans for the weekend. If you want to do something let me know.
