No Depression

I have not been writing because I have not been having adventures. That is not a good excuse. Days without adventures are days to write about thoughts. Those are supposed to be most important entries. It’s late, I don’t think I’m up to thoughts. I could write a potpourri, at least that’s the way I’ll start. Sometimes when I do that, I get inspired … at least I used to when I wrote every day.

I’ll start with my new culinary invention, sauteed garlic breakfast sandwich. What I had today was specifically a sauteed garlic taylorhameggandcheese sandwich. MS custom dictionary for the win! It recognized taylorhameggandcheese as a word. A couple of days ago I had bratwurst and mash for dinner and forgot to make it garlic mashed potatoes. Today’s breakfast was designed to counterbalance that. How put do I fry eggs? I put some fat in the skillet and fry the eggs in them. Usually, it’s bacon fat or spray cooking oil but sautéing requires oil. I was foolish and forgot to use olive oil and had to settle for cannola. All I did was dice a clove of garlic and put then garlic in the oil. I mixed it up a bit till they were brown then cracked the eggs right on top of the garlic. I thought the slice of Taylor ham in there too. When it was done, I put them all on a bagel and topped it with pepper jack cheese. That was an amazingly tasty way to start the day. That’s a lie, I didn’t eat until after noon. No matter the time it was my first meal of the day and excellent self-care. I’ve been careful to treat myself well and that has perhaps contributed to my depression easing up. I don’t have a current professional diagnosis now, but I had it done monthly for several years, and I know that was in a major depression earlier I experienced the most obvious symptom. If you’ve been through it, you know what it is. If not be happy that you don’t know by experience. Now my depression is somewhere between mild and moderate. I took advantage of that today and finally put away a bag of clean laundry that’s just been sitting there for over a month. I still haven’t matched the socks. That’s a major project.

It’s midnight, time to play wordle and go to sleep. That’s part of my self-care. I’ll pick this up in the morning. OK, the even, it’s 6:23 PM. At least I’m back

I have finished next week’s Gord’s Gold. I wish I had more than an hour a week but there’s an upside to that. Every show is bespoke, nothing off the rack. I have time to find songs that fit into themes. The themes of next week’s show are Sexism in the Garden of Eden, Rock-Folk (not the same as folk-rock), boogieing, and The Wide World of Folk which is also the theme of the entire show.  What other folk show is going to play Robert Schumann’s Five Pieces in Folk Style Op. 102. I. Mit Humor played on cello and Marimba. Don’t say, “That’s not folk!” It has folk right in the title.

This week’s show had a Labor Day set. What was my favorite part? A song by Lisa Simpson. Do you remember that episode? I prepared the show during the DNC and that made its way into the show. Without naming names I made my political endorsement clear. Writing that inspired me to do something I’ve planned for years but somehow forgot about now. I wrote the Harris/Walz campaign to volunteer to organize musical events. Imagine house concerts that raise money not just for the musicians but for Kamala and Democratic congressional candidates. If you are a musician or a presenter of house concerts and would be interested let me know.

Now that we are into the Labor Day Weekend listen to Stickin’ with the Union.
