To me, the heart of liberalism is an expansive view of “Us.” Right wing populism is about protecting Us against Them. Who is Us and who is Them varies but this idea that there is a foreign element, people that don’t share our values, that are out to get us.

Welcome to a late-night edition of Wise Madness. The reason it’s late is part of what I’m going to write about. The other part, and the reason I’m not just waiting until tomorrow, is that today Dave Carter’s birthday.
I’ve finally reached the last day of Falcon Ridge. Let’s see if I can remember anything.
today I write about Saturday at Falcon Ridge.
On my third post about Falcon Ridge I finally get to the official start of the Festival. After various mishaps FRFF was running on all cylinders Friday. What I mean by that is that I started my day with bacon and eggs and the Dharma Café; I have simple needs.
The FRFF website says that the festival started on Friday. That’s only if you accept a narrow definition of what the festival is. Thursday should certainly be included as that’s when we have the Lounge Stage. Six solid hours of music. But even that does not encompass the entire festival as many of us arrive on Wednesday. There’s nothing happening at the stages, but the community takes shape. There is always music. That’s where I’ll begin
